Oh, boy. Great thread. But I just got home, and I'm eager to do some editing, while sufficiently answering this question would take be a bit. I'm gonna have to come back to this later. Off the top of my head, here's a great one:

Korn, Disturbed, Linkin Park, Deftones, Marilyn Manson, Static X, Tricky, etc

The Red Violin - John Corigliano plays violin

The Matrix
Propellerheads, Meat Beat Manifesto, The Prodigy, Rob Zombie, Deftones, Monster Magnet, Rage Against The Machine, Rammstein

Almost Famous - I can't list all those names

Crooklyn
Staple Singers, Sly and the Family Stone, Curtis Mayfield, Jackson 5, The Spinners, The JB's (James Brown's backup band), The Chambers Brothers, The Chi-Lites

See, the thing about soundtracks, for me, is that it's not just about the song. Audio is only half the experience. The example I listed above is when The Spaniard wins the big battle, before
finally re-uniting with his wife and child in heaven
. It's beautiful, and the music matches. That's what makes a great soundtrack -- a perfect tandem. So, it's kinda difficult for me to post my favorites, because they're all out of context, but...

No spoilers here, but I think you need to be part of Gen-X to truly appreciate this first one.

Okay, so I could've chosen any of HOW MANY John Williams songs? How do you narrow that list down? I chose this one because "Last Crusade" is simply my favorite, and this song is from the badass scene in which Indy saves dad from captivity inside the tank.

You know I have to put an "Avatar" song on this list. The scene in which Jake finally mounts and flies an ikran (banshee) is such a wonderous joy.

"Wall-E" is one of my personal litmus-tests. If that movie doesn't connect with you, I seriously can't trust your judgement. The scene in which Wall-E and E.V.E. waltz in space is just so beautiful.

Yes, I'm a fan-boy. Another Blade Runner clip. This song is 'Memories of Green'. The entire soundtrack is by Vangelis, and it's beautiful.

Hammerstone you stole mine with Basil.

Cracker, Nightmare before X-mas is a really good soundtrack. I still find myself singing sometimes.
What's this. What's this. There's white things in the air. What's this, there's color everywhere.haha

I liked the soundtrack for Into The Wild.. i thought all that stuff was pretty good and Black Snake Moan with the band The Black Keys.

I don't know if anyone has noticed but in the film The Untouchables the music is so out of place, it's almost cringy to listen to it

As far as some other sound track stuff...The Tarantulas are pretty good......If you dont know them, they are the band in the vampire bar in From Dusk Til Dawm.

As far as I know, The Black Keys didn't actually score Black Snake Moan. That would have been cool though. I can't think of very many rock bands that have scored a film...I know Dredg did one...and Toto, of course! David Lynch's Dune...what a hell of a film!

I have both the dvd and the soundtrack for The Untouchables, and for me, the score works better on cd (though the tracklisting on the cd's all screwed up). However, I think Ennio Morricone made a bold choice with his music and I applaud him for that. Al Capone's music is frickin brilliant, and so is "Machine Gun Lullaby," the part where Kevin Costner is at the top of the stairs while the kid in the pram is (rolling down the stairs? Can't remember). Have you ever seen any other films scored by Morricone? His music usually takes a more active role in the film than a lot of scores I can think of, and I wish more composers did it like him.
