Best Monologue Ever

Disclaimer: I'm assuming everyone on this forum knows that any Scarface clip is R-Rated.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNiiHVYnQ6A

What's your favorite from? "Braveheart"? "JCVD"? "Animal House"? Pacino has another really good one in "Scent of a Woman". Actually, he has something like 5 really good ones ih that movie.

EDIT: And, no, this is not a thinly-veiled attempt to call you all a bunch of cowardly assholes. I would hope my previous posts would be enough for anyone to know that I feel very positively about the members of this forum, but just in case anyone might think it, no, Tony Montana is not supposed to represent me. I just think Pacino delivers the best monologues.

Good stuff, good stuff. I love Tony Montana. Pacino's monologue at the end of "Scent of a Woman" was awesome too. Nice picks, C-Funk.

I must also add the Joker's monologues in the Drak Knight...top two - "Wanna know how I got these scars" and "These people, their morals, it's a bad joke".

Then there are the Rorschach log entries from Watchmen.

Marrissa Tormei had a great one in "My Cousin Vinny"...which brings to mind a great one from Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler..."I'm just an old broken down piece of meat" or something like that.

EDIT: Sorry I didn't add an example, I broke the rules, again. Could not embed so just click on this bad boy...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQHfoz9Be7U.

As perhaps the only person in the world who likes the second and third Matrix films this is the one which springs to mind.
Scoured Youtube for this one but can't find it, so I'll post the written version.

"Why, Mr. Anderson? Why do you do it? Why get up? Why keep fighting? Do you believe you're fighting for something? For more than your survival? Can you tell me what it is? Do you even know? Is it freedom? Or truth? Perhaps peace? Yes? No? Could it be for love? Illusions, Mr. Anderson. Vagaries of perception. The temporary constructs of a feeble human intellect trying desperately to justify an existence that is without meaning or purpose. And all of them as artificial as the Matrix itself, although only a human mind could invent something as insipid as love. You must be able to see it, Mr. Anderson. You must know it by now. You can't win. It's pointless to keep fighting. Why, Mr. Anderson? Why? Why do you persist?"

It's not so much the words, but the delivery. Hugo Weaving is an excellent actor, and as far as I'm concerned this is the highlight of the third film.

I think Picard could always do a great monologue. I think it must be the shakespearean training.

There're a couple good ones in this scene. First around the 2 minute mark. And then at 6:45

Spencer Tracy in Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
Supposedly he only ever read a script once and would have it completely memorized.

I have the blu ray box set including all three movies, the animatrix and two separate behind the scenes doco dvds ^_^ in other words, you are not alone in liking the whole trilogy. However, if we're gonna talk about Smith, I think his best monologue is in the first one when he's talking to Morpheus.
This is the best video I can find:

This is definitely one of my favourite monologues, but there's probably others I like more. I just can't think of them right now. My head is full of tafe -_<

P.S. Is this what you're looking for cameramonkey? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIfzyYT1Oho&feature=related

P.P.S Tony Montana is one of my all time favourite characters. Just throwin that out there :P

Nice one Cliche, that's the one I was after. For the record, The Animatrix is brilliant.

Dreadylocks, good call there. I always thought Patrick Stewart was somewhat wasted with Star Trek. Don't get me wrong, I am a trekkie, if you were to cut me I would probably bleed warp plasma, however, I am not deluded. If Star Trek was a film (yes I know there were films (First Contact FTW!) but they are a different case entirely)... Let me rephrase, if the series was a film it would be a SciFi B movie that every one forgot about in 7 minutes. Like Starship troopers minus the cult following.

I believe the 1.55 minute mark on this video sums up my feelings on the Patrick Stewart in Star Trek matter quite succinctly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fmn-g8FDUek

Enter the KING

WESTMORELAND. O that we now had here
But one ten thousand of those men in England
That do no work to-day!

KING. What's he that wishes so?
My cousin Westmoreland? No, my fair cousin;
If we are mark'd to die, we are enow
To do our country loss; and if to live,
The fewer men, the greater share of honour.
God's will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.
By Jove, I am not covetous for gold,
Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost;
It yearns me not if men my garments wear;
Such outward things dwell not in my desires.
But if it be a sin to covet honour,
I am the most offending soul alive.
No, faith, my coz, wish not a man from England.
God's peace! I would not lose so great an honour
As one man more methinks would share from me
For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more!
Rather proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
We would not die in that man's company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.
This day is call'd the feast of Crispian.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam'd,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say 'To-morrow is Saint Crispian.'
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say 'These wounds I had on Crispian's day.'
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember, with advantages,
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words-
Harry the King, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester-
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

The Klingon known as Worf later summarised this a bit more briefly as,

"Perhaps today *is* a good day to die! Prepare for ramming speed! " :cool:

Okay guys, I'm going to have to be a major pain in the backside here.
I just finished watching Serenity (for those of you who don't know) the film off-shoot of the only SciFi property I love more than The Matrix, Firefly!

These two occur to me after watching said film. I don't seriously think either of them are in the running for 'best monologue' any where except inside my tiny fanboy mind, but Imma post em any way.

They more or less follow each other but there is brief conversation between them so I cut 'em up as it would be easier for you guys.

David, that definitely counts as a monologue, and it's a good one.

Kosh, nice call on "Dark Knight". He so menacing! Also, though it's not a monologue, I love when Rorschach says, "I don't think you guys get it -- I'm not stuck in here with you; you're stuck in here with me!"

cameramonkey, I like "Reloaded", even if only for one of the most awesomely awesome 3rd acts in action-movie history, what with the ghost-twins and the LA Freeway, etc.

Although, I'm gonna have to agree with cliche -- I like Agent Smith's monologue in #1 the best.

Dready, good call with Picard -- how did I forget him? My favorite is this one:

Zensteve, it has occured to me, a very strong possibility that you might be a fellow Trekkie!

My favorite part of Reloaded is the scene with the Architect when they discuss the origins of the Matrix. I would post it here except it isn't a monologue because Neo can't keep his mouth shut.

And I'd just like to 'high five' you Cracker Funk for picking a scene from First Contact to use as an example to show Stewart's prodigious talents. Best Trek movie by far, certainly better than that cinematic drool, Nemesis. The Borg just make my inner nerd go weak at the knees.

Oh, and the ones I mentioned earlier -- "Braveheart", "Animal House", etc. -- those aren't necessarily my favorites, I was just tossing out some popular examples.

Besides pretty much any monologue Pacino delivers, here's a couple more that I personally like a lot:

First, from "Legend of Bagger Vance", a supremely underrated movie that not enough people have seen (getting the white-box, so adding a link).

And while we're talking Will Smith monologues, I really like this one:

And for a good laugh, I really like this one (disclaimer -- R-rated lowbrow humor)

Sigh. I just wrote a great big comment and then accidentally closed my browser! Dangit. What I'd written was that I thought of another. I don't know how to embed videos so here is the link:

Adam Sandler in Reign Over Me.

I also love Cameron Van Hoy in Pups but I can't find any videos of it on youtube except a really bad trailer :(

The Animatrix does have some amazing stuff in it. And CF, when would you ever disagree with me?

Actually, I disagree quite strongly with your current FB profile name. Is that even a real person?! I've never heard of her.

Anyway, I've changed my mind. This is the Best Monologue Ever:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fd4VSkj0Wks

lol, she is a real person and that is a real photo of her and her real boyfriend (george plate).
pulp fiction <3 oh to be able to write dialogue like quentin tarantino!

ps excuse the lack of grammar and whatnot, i'm typing with one hand while eating and watching true blood

Nope. Not buying it. I'm pretty sure that dude in the picture is Adrian Brody, before getting a haircut and bulking up for "Predators". That stalker-chick next to him does make a pretty sweet Debbie-Downer face, though. Wahh-Wahhhh! ;)

Just playin. But you know that. I've got the next two days off; maybe I'll get my lazy-ass to the snail-mail-office.
