The usual noob camera question. Help appreciated

So I'm thinking about making a movie. Odds are, It's not going to happen due to budget/experience reasons
but I figured I'd ask anyway as I am pretty serious about it.

I would like to use an hd camcorder I could buy for like 3-5 hundred. I want the quality to be hd and I want it to look professional.

I will be using it to film a porn and I'm pretty sure I can get away with just a one camera setup (scrubs can do it, so can I)

I won't go into my plans for the movie as they are extremely stupid and the more I think about them the less I consider doing it.

So I need a camera for 3-5 hundred dollars that is hd and has a professional look to it

of course I'm talking digital.

Thanks

Yea porn!

I'm going to treat this question seriously. The camera isn't what
will make your video look professional. But since your final output
doesn't need to be much more than an in focus image then
"professional" isn't really a concern, is it?

In your price range all cameras are pretty much the
same. A Sony is like a Sharp is like a Canon is like a Panasonic
is like Samsung. You can go to any Best Buy and pick up a camera
in that price range and you won’t be able to tell the difference.

But since you want a specific camera recommendation and don't
really want to do much research I'll recommend the Flip UntraHD
for about $200 or the Samsung SMX-K40 for about $250.

Usually I ask a new moviemaker to post their movie here when
it's finished. I think in this case I won't.

Have fun!

you are brave to make a porno.

I have been using a Canon Vixia HV30 which sells for 400-600 on ebay. it is a great camera with a cinema feature that make video look more like film. the only downside is that the 24fp mode (which gives you the look of film as far as motion blur goes) is encoded in a 60i stream and requires a process called 2:3 pull down for editing to get a nice result. not a show stopper but something to plan to deal with when editing. of course you could just shoot in 30fps and not worry about that. I think the people watching your naked actors won't be too concerned about the film look. you should not be so negative about doing your project. make a plan you can afford and go for it. you need to be certain about what you are doing to get others interested in it. I have learned this the hard way.

Yeah, cuz last time I watched porn, I was like, "Wow, that's some excellent cinematography. I love the way they used shadows in that scene."

I'm just messin with ya. You're not going to get a professional look, in that price-range. How close you come to a professional look will depend entirely on what you do with the camera, etc.

directorik is WAY more on an expert on this subject than I am, but my main reason for this post is to point out the satisfaction that I've had with Sony products, especially in the consumer price-range. They have a reputation for good image-stability, better low-light shooting, and long battery-life (though, I don't even know anything about the cameras he mentioned, so my advice could be way outdated).
