My new toy!!

Yesterday the last part I needed for my 35mm adapter came!!! I couldn't wait so I filmed some shots right away. I made a little montage of them and I'd love to know what you all think :)

Encinema 35mm Adapter + Canon Vixia HF200
Most shots were with a Minolta 50mm f/2 lens. And I think just one is the Minolta 28mm f/2.8 lens.

(HD should be processed soon :D)

I didn't use any extra lighting besides the daylight and a lamp in a couple shots. Only a few shots have color correction and then it was just some brightness contrast adjustments :)

Wish I could take care of the camera shake but I think I may just need a decent tripod, or perhaps just having a rail support system would help. I was thinking about seeing if I can figure out the AE motion fixing tool, but I just wanted to get this up fast :D. (Or maybe I should stop drinking ;) )

Overall I'm really happy with the look and am SUPER excited to see what else I can do with this.

That's awful purrrdyy :D

That's' some nice stuff, there Dready-maybe I'll make a lens adapter my next purchase (right now my eyes on on a decent Microphone so I can redo the audio on my shorts).

Congrats! :)

re

Very nice, which adaptor did you buy? I'm thinking of getting one, but still lost. Not as smart as I should be on the adaptor's techie stuff, either. (It sounds like you bought multiple parts?)

Thanks for the feedback guys!

@Graeme: artistic? Why thank you, but I think that just shows that a little music goes a long way. To answer your question, you use the focusing ring on the lens itself. The adapter has a little focusing screen which you focus the camera itself to. Then when you put the lens on it projects to the screen and that's what your camera records. So no autofocus unfortunately.
I think your D90 looks great, btw. I won't be upgrading for years, but it's gonna be hard to decide between pro dslr camera or prosumer camcorder.

@movieman: I got the encinema 35mm adapter. It was 215 with shipping. Do a google search and they'll pop right up. You will also need to buy at least one lens. If you want the shallow DOF you'll probably want a 50mm (the canon EF is 99 bucks on amazon). The reason I needed another part was because the adapter has a Canon EOS mount, and I have Minolta MD mount lenses (luckily I got these for free) so I bought an adapter ring to go from MD to EOS mounts (40 bucks on ebay). The nice thing about these adapters is that you can find many inexpensive manual focus lenses and just get the mount adapter, and you'll save yourself a lot of $$. You can't use the autofocus anyway so it's really worth the price. EOS gets very expensive very fast.

Forcing a cat to live in an environment with 2nd hand smoke! Im forwarding your video evidence to the SCPA. (or was that diffusion in a can?):lol::lol:

Purdy.. but soft on focus. But I dont think thats the adapters fault. :) No offense. When you racked focus back and forth I saw sharp focus, but your locked shots are a bit fuzzy.

I think you need two, three more pieces of equipment.

An HD monitor to check critical focus

A lens support rail system

A follow focus widget.

Its just money:D

It's funny you say that, smoke doesn't bother the orange cat (Jacques) at all, but the striped one (Kudra) is a total snob about it. Every time I pick up a cigarette she just looks at me disdainfully and walks out of the room :P

One step at a time. I really was surprised at how hard it was to tell if something was as in focus as it could be. I'd love a field monitor but it's just not gonna happen anytime soon :(

It was also my first day with the camera so I just gotta get used to it, too. That and filming upside down and backwards. Soo confusing at first, but I think I'm getting the hang of it :D

Thanks for the feedback!

EDIT: How does that follow focus unit work? Do you just put in the settings and it will go from one to the other when you want it to?

Thought Id add..

Just to be clear, Im criticizing Dreddy because Im FREAKING JEALOUS!

I WANT ONE I WANT ONE I WANT ONE WAAAAAAAAA MOOOMMY

I mean, you seem like a perfectionist so I understand why you just want to get a Jag or Redrock, but in the right hands this little encinema dealie can look real good. Just imagine if I actually lit those shots well....

The only reason I would switch to a nicer one at this point would be for the extra image flip to make it normal again. I'm not bothered by the little bit of grainy-ness from the fact that it's a static.

At least Wheat was honest :)

I of course, wasn't jealous....don't have a jealous bone in my body...I mean it's just a camera and lens....good for you Dready....good....for....you.....

show off

I mean, nice of YOU to show it OFF to us Dready......really nice.....*ahem*
