Quick question on a Canon 814 az

Hey everyone,

I just got my first canon 814 off ebay for a good price but took a chance knowing it may not function. The auto zoom works as well as the meter, but I don't have any cartridges yet and they won't arrive until about Wednesday. I was just wondering if anyone can tell me whether the film motor will advance without a cartridge in there or not. I'm hoping the answer is no ;D

There is still a good chance you can get the camera working. I have purchased a few off ebay that were non-runners, and since I had nothing to loose, I got into the habit of taking them apart and trying to work out the "why" So far I have "fixed" two 814's, one 1218, and changed lenses on an 814, (removed the fungus infected ones)

I made up a website detailing, with good pictures, the process of disassembly and fault finding. Bearing in mind, however, that camera repair is a honed skill! My success with repairs can just as easily been a case of good luck. I am currently going through the motions with a 1014.
