Canon XL1 or XL2

I currently have a Canon HF20 but I was thinking of buying either a Canon XL1 or XL2. Would it be worth the upgrade or would it be an upgrade at all?

I have an XL1s and often wish I had an XL2 for its native 16:9. The big advantage of these cameras is the interchangeable lens. Plus, the manual controls are very easily accessed on the lens (except the iris, which is a little wheel on the side - takes some getting used to during run and gun).

I have a 16x manual lens for mine and was contemplating getting the wide angle lens that's also available. But standard definition (especially 4:3) is fast becoming obsolete, so I am contemplating selling mine. It is still an excellent camera for learning, though, because it's heavy and bulky relatively speaking which will get you used to carrying the more expensive shoulder mount cameras. I put an MA-200 with a dual battery pack on mine to balance it out better.

The lens that comes with the camera has optical image stabilization. The 16x manual lens does not.

See my last post in this thread for example footage and comparison with a consumer (as opposed to Prosumer) camera:

But bear in mind that your HF20 is high definition. The Canons XL1 series and XL2 are standard definition with one of the bigger differences between the XL1 series and the XL2 being native 16:9. The high definition big brother is the Canon XLH1 (http://www.usa.canon.com/app/html/XLH1/index.shtml).

For high definition, I'll be looking at cameras other than the Canon (Panasonic, JVC, Sony). Some of them are really dropping in price lately.
