which one of these is HD?

Hi,

I found out through distibs that HD is mandatory these days.

So I am planning to buy a Pansonic AG-HXPX 500. it has a lot of formats.

DVCPRO50, DVCPRO and DV

Now which one is HD in this?

Regards and thanx,
Aceinc1

DVCPRO HD is the only one that is HD for that camera.

DV is standard def with 4:1:1 color space

DVPRO is standard def with 4:2:2 color space

DVCPRO50 is standard def with 4:2:2 color space and is at 50 megs per sec compression, very mild and highest quality SD you can get other than digibeta.

I know this is slightly off topic but I know you are working
on financing this movie. I'm wondering if you have thought
about renting a camera (along with all the other equipment)
or hiring a DP with a camera?

I am usually an advocate of owning a camera, but since you
are looking in the above $10,000 range I think your situation
warrants a skilled DP and the rental of a high end HD camera
with an excellent lens package.

The Pansonic AG-HXPX 500 is a fine camera, but it's three years
old now and won't be viable for shooting the kinds of movies you
are planning in another year or two. So it's not a good investment.

You could spend just a little more renting a high end HD camera
(and lenses) for your shoot.

Sorry for the derail. But you have your answer about format.

you see, if a camera it old int he US only then it'll be available in India.

the pattern has been the same for ages.

I have found red one has a long waiting list in its website. I too may be able to place an order through a camera sales guy who has the license to import camera into India but they'll charge an additional 80% fee other then the camera cost as their fee. if red if 20,000 I'll end up paying 36,000 for the body alone.

it'll be highly unlikely that there would be any DoP in India with red.

regards,
