We are shooting a short film where it takes place at night but we are shooting everything during the day. Its all INT. Shots but the need to show the outside thur windows. We need to figure out how to make it look like its night time out the windows.
Cant close the curtains because we have a "killer" in the windows looking inside the house

can you just shoot the shots with the killer looking in during the night?
If you think what you see out side the window at night just copy that.. :)
Black background.. about 4 feet out from the window.. maybe poke a few holes in it strategically to look like far off house lights or something..
completely empty blackness will look wrong..
You don't need to BLOCK the light just, so the camera only sees the BLACK backdrop..use felt or some other NON reflective fabric..

I would build a tent outside the window and then just light your subject. Much like what Wheat said.

If you light the inside of the room bright, I mean REALLY bright, brighter than you need, you ll have an easier time getting your out the window shot.. though, Id bet that reflections in the glass are going to be a bigger problem. Maybe open the windows..
