Loopholes

Is anyone aware of any loopholes that are able to be 'exploited'

Now, I understand people have a right to charge money for their art etc etc etc, and I know that I shouldn't be whinging about my inability to pay ....

But, I would really like to use a section of Frank Sinatra's 'Brazil' in my latest short film. I'm arranging for a composer to score the rest of the piece, but the section of the film i'm referring to really does require a 'big band' piece.

Are there are loopholes that refer to the intended use and distribution of the short film? If the film is going to be used sparringly in a select few circumstances?

I know I'm pissing into the wind here, but .... it's worth a try

Nope. No loop holes.

The right to copy (copyright) protects the owner from
unauthorized use of their work. Even in little pieces
and even if the filmmaker won't make a profit. The
bottom line is, it isn't profitright, it's copyright.

What a great opportunity, though, to connect with they myriad film composers on this forum. One of them would probably kill for the opportunity to create a new big band song for your film.
