Anyone here familiar with the old Sony DSR-PD100? I'm looking for a smaller camera for some real close quarters experimental shots and to use as a lightweight second camera for the man-on-the-street interview section of an upcoming documentary. Right now the used prices of the Sony are similar to new prices for the Canon. Would there be any reason to get an older Sony with three CCDs vs the high-def single CMOS Canon? Sony has XLR but I can bypass that on the Canon with a Beachtek.

I think I'll end up with the Canon but was wondering if there were any die-hard fans of the older Sony.

I'e never used that particular sony camera. But I do find that in general they make very good, reliable cameras.
The thing is you could say the same for cannon.

What is the rest of your format (main camera)? My gut feeling is to keep the format consistent over mixing SD/HD.
