What do I need to get an agent/manger in the US?

What is usually required to be able to find a good agent/manager i the states as a Screewriter/Director?
What kind of experience is needed?

I'm a European filmmaker and have made two features as a director/writer and one as a Producer. The last one that I wrote/directed was recently released straight to DVD in north America by a smaller distributor. I have several scripts written with stories set in the US and would like to have someone representing me in the US. Any tips how/who to approach.

You seem to have the requirements.

You approach an agent with a letter of inquiry - more
commonly known as the query letter. A good query
letter should be addressed directly to a specific person
- no “to whom it may concern” letters. It MUST be
grammatically correct with proper punctuation - obvious?
You’d be surprised. State clearly your finished projects
and what you have ready to go.

A killer, high concept log line goes a long way. Seriously.
If you can’t sell it in ONE sentence they won’t be able
to sell it in one sentence.

My only tip on who to approach is to approach all of them.
Do a lot of research on agents who rep writer/directors.
Knowing the clients they represent is really important.
