FCP Color Correction to Vimeo or Youtube

Hi all,

I've been watching a lot of short films on Vimeo and/or Youtube lately and they are basically just out standing. One of the things that I paid attention to when I watched these video was the picture quality. I believe that videos are very well color-corrected in post because you can see how strong and sharp the images are even after being uploaded to Vimeo or Youtube.

This made me think that how come every time I uploaded videos to Vimeo/Youtube, the image quality of my videos are so bad (unlike these videos I've mentioned before). Talk about color correction, I did all my best doing it in Final Cut Pro and the result was very satisfying (of course this was before I uploaded them online).

The videos I was talking about:

http://www.vimeo.com/1607566
(NOTE: These videos were shot on MiniDV -- not HDV)

Sample of my video:

What did I do wrong here? How come the color of my video was so "washed out" after I uploaded them to both Vimeo/ Youtube? Can someone help me out? Or perhaps I did some mistake when editing the video?

What I did is that:
- I edited & color corrected my video in FCP;
- then I exported it (using QuickTime Movie export) just to be imported to After Effects to applied the cinematic color correction to my video (and then exported it again using Animation codec after I'm done)
- THEN I imported it back to FCP to retouched it up a lil bit before finally exported it using H.264 codec for the web.

Thank you very much for reading. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Joe

Hey Joe,

I'm having the same sort of problems but I think my weakness is my camera and export settings. Like you I do my colour correcting in both Adobe After Effects and Final Cut Pro but cannot achieve such a clear look on youtube.

Looking forward to getting a solution to this problem.
