Watch this College Humor vid (its supposed to be funny with bad accents) throughout te video you can barely see he background. Why is this?

Upping the contrast in post? I don't know...it's not an iris thing I don't think. It looks more like a filter that brings the brights up and leaves the middles and darks alone.
