watch Pep Talk - a 70s ed wood production

Not really...not even close.

I'm new to the forum and I've just recently got interested in making short movies again. Trying to work my way up to something decent. There are some inspirational stuff here on this forum. I'm afraid to make another noir short seeing how many people here can make them much better than I can.

Anyways, here is a test short I just shot called "Pep Talk." It had pretty awful audio and no lighting, so I hope what I did in post is acceptable. Any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

In dialogue scenes like that, try some "dirty overs" instead of always close up to close up. A dirty over is shot over the listener's shoulder with them tight in the forground and out of focus, and the person talking taking up most of the frame and in focus. It gives you some shot variety other than master/close up.

Seriously, not pimping my trailer, but it's a handy example, the shot near the end of the doctor and the nurse is a dirty over, though she is more in frame than typical in one, and she delivers a line. More typical I think would be her a little less in frame and only the doctor talking.

nothing wrong with pimping. I actually checked out the trailer my first day on the forum. nice sets. and classy titles.

I had tried to shoot dirty overs but was too lazy to move the furnitures around to get a good depth. This was mostly a quick test to see if I could shoot a dialogue driven piece since I've never really done it before. I definitely agree I could have done more interesting shots, especially the second half were it gets long winded. oh well, learning for the next one.
