View Full Version : Clever Character Names indietalk 05-03-2009, 05:07 PM What are some cool, clever, unusual, obscure character names you have seen in movies? Lord of Light 05-03-2009, 06:41 PM Most of the characters in the movie "Brick." -The Pin -Tugger -Brain -Dode shockimpulse 07-02-2009, 07:52 PM Chev Chilios. I don't know if I spelled that right but, yeah. Jason Statham's character in Crank. Zensteve 07-02-2009, 07:56 PM I can't think of anything current, but the names of the Bond women used to get a chuckle going. My fave was "Chu Mi" :) CDCosta 07-02-2009, 08:11 PM Most of the characters in the movie "Brick." -The Pin -Tugger -Brain -Dode Brick, such a great movie, just finished watching it for the 5th time today. Alcove Audio 07-02-2009, 08:22 PM From the James Bond novels/films are the very funny Pussy Galore (JB: "I must be dreaming...") and Octapussy. ASHREY 09-03-2009, 09:22 AM it my current script, two of my characters are named, TIFF and E I'm like the names a lot. black gun forge 12-16-2009, 04:13 PM i love how the potter names mostly refer to the characters - sirius black -weasely -wormtail -draco malfoy libatias borage -charity burbage -fenrir greyback etc devhaven 12-16-2009, 04:20 PM Office Space - Bill Lumbergh First off, 'Bill' is such a typical common name - which is perfect for the character in Office Space. And then there's 'Lumbergh'. It is such a focal point at some points in the film. It is very comedic. 'Lumbergh f***ed her'. It adds to the movie a lot. Buddy Greenfield 12-16-2009, 04:45 PM I was watching the 2 seasons of F Troop not long ago and noticed they would name pairs of walk-on or unseen characters like Gilbert, Sullivan, Holmes, Watson, Lewis, Clark and others I undoubtedly didn’t pick up on. Also, now that I think of it, Joss Whedon and company have used some names and nicknames over the years that seem unlikely choices, yet worked: Buffy, Xander, Willow, Gunn, Wesley, Fred (For a girl) Harmony, Drusilla, Spike and the list goes on. :) ASHREY 12-16-2009, 07:44 PM guy richie tends to have cool character names. i just recently watched rocknrolla. main guys name is 'one two' thought that was pretty cool 2001 Productions 12-17-2009, 02:26 PM I can't think of anything current, but the names of the Bond women used to get a chuckle going. My fave was "Chu Mi" :) Still love Plenty O'Toole, myself. The female lead character in my first feature was named Karen Nabors. Still amazes me how many people don't pick up on it. tongoll 12-18-2009, 12:11 AM Guy Montag from Fahrenheit 451 Guy Fawkes a old english revolutionist. altaire from assasins creed (i just think it's a cool name) ringo star (if you have to ask, don't....) hollywood323 12-18-2009, 01:06 AM From movies that exist: Tyler Durden Donnie Darko Luke Skywalker Ash Forrest Gump From movies that don't yet exist: Audrey Heartburn Charlie Kandinsky Cal Korine Jeffrey Juniper Buddy Greenfield 12-19-2009, 07:32 PM It’s not very clever or seen in a film, but in a feature I wrote years ago I named a thug character Mustela Nivalis. I think it means something like "Little Weasel" in Latin. His cohort is named Febuary Goldman, which is Latin for "I was out of ideas for names." -Thanks- kgasser2 12-20-2009, 04:27 PM mike hawk mike hunt harry balsagna al coholic amanda huggenkiss hugh jass am i being cliche enough or should i go on?? indietalk 12-20-2009, 04:49 PM mike hawk mike hunt harry balsagna al coholic amanda huggenkiss hugh jass am i being cliche enough or should i go on?? Hmm, well I guess you're watching a different kind of movie.... XXX ;) kgasser2 12-21-2009, 12:34 AM haha, whoa there. it's not my fault the sexual ones are the most funny! barnaclelapse 12-21-2009, 08:58 AM I've always been fond of a wrestling name I came up with, Jimmy Funker (the Funker part being an obvious homage to Terry Funk, if you know your wrestling). I always wanted to use the name whenever I got a chance to work in pro wrestling, but I've had to content myself by instead using the name in film scripts. For some reason I also like the name as something you could use for a really corrupt priest, so I've used the name in two scripts that called for such a character. Buddy Greenfield 12-21-2009, 09:26 AM I forgot that my own name is from a script about a boy and his runaway DEA robot, called Growbot. Growbot is programmed to find fields of illicit “crops”, but instead mistakenly and literally finds character Buddy Greenfield. Pixel 12-22-2009, 04:50 PM From Inglourious Basterds Aldo Raine From Woody Allen's 1979 film " Manhattan" Isaac Davis Mary Wilkie Yale Pollack Jill Emily Dennis Jeremiah Sam2610 12-22-2009, 07:28 PM I felt so stupid when I found out that Neo from the Matrix is an anagram of One lol I also hear that other characters names have little meanings behind them that fit with their character roles. Anyone know of these? Pixel 12-24-2009, 03:24 PM I felt so stupid when I found out that Neo from the Matrix is an anagram of One lol I also hear that other characters names have little meanings behind them that fit with their character roles. Anyone know of these? No , I actually didn't that one about Neo , now I feel stupid too xD caseyhein 01-22-2010, 04:22 PM Agent Paul Smecker invert the first sylable of the first and last name, Either that is one of the single greatest coincidences in cinematic history. Or Duffy laughed his way to the bank for pulling one over on the studio. Boondock Saints Dreadylocks 01-22-2010, 04:25 PM Can't think of any from film at the moment. Although I did just find out today the name of the Vice(and acting) President of Nigeria: Goodluck Johnathan I can't tell you how many times I was confused listening to the newscaster and thinking they were endorsing a politician.. Still though, AWESOME name! davejacobs 03-31-2010, 08:19 AM Naming characters is also the hardest part for me, because they either sound too generic or sound like im trying too hard to give them a unique name. Best film name ever, my vote is for Dr. Ian Malcolm. wheatgrinder 03-31-2010, 02:25 PM Agent Paul Smecker invert the first sylable of the first and last name, Either that is one of the single greatest coincidences in cinematic history. In my film Gun Town, "Dr.Sawbones" was a cool name I thought. It's the actual name of the owner who plays that character during live shows. aceofspades70 03-31-2010, 09:10 PM mike hawk mike hunt harry balsagna al coholic amanda huggenkiss hugh jass am i being cliche enough or should i go on?? you forgot Peter Burns |
