XR200V

Hi, I am new to film making and I wanted to buy an HD camera that I could use both at home and for some trial film making. I definitely wanted a camera with a hard drive that records at 1080i or 1080p resolution. I got it for a pretty cheap price of $850 and I was wondering what you guys think about this camera because I am a major newbie when it comes to this. I like Sony but I was wondering if you can offer me suggestions on similar cameras at a lower price or cameras with better features and quality for the same price.

That camera offers all the consumer essentials like face detection
and “smile shutter” where it takes a still picture every time it
detects someone smiling.

But is doesn’t have the main features that someone making movies
needs. First the 1/5” CMOS sensor is really tiny - it very
limited control over shutter and exposure (all done on a touch
screen) and even the focus must be done on the touch screen - and
it doesn’t have a mic input. Very important when making movies
rather than shooting home videos.

But the automatic functions and very nice 1080/60i picture make it
a nice camera for shooting vacations, birthday parties and that
kind of thing. You should have fun making movies with it, too.
You’ll just find it very limiting and the audio will give you
problems.
