Sorry, but that's the only kind of money I have to spend right now. I'm only making videos for practices and short films for city events. I need something that can record good dialogue inside and outside. Something good for filmmaking and not music recording.

Sorry, I'm not good at audio tech.

The Rode Stereo Videomic is a good deal. It's at B&H for $200. Search for it on YouTube and you'll get a bunch of sound tests that'll give you an idea of what it's like.

I just bought an Audio Technica 875R, beautiful Microphone! Just under $200 @ fullcompass.com . Requires 48v Phantom Power though, AT 897 is just over $200 online and will run off of phantom or a AA battery :)

Is there a way to mount the AT 875R on the camera hot shoe mount? Not necessarily connected through the hot shoe, but mounted on camera.

depends on the camera... short answer yes :) It comes with adaptor rings for putting it in most mic holders on cameras that have them. You can get cheap hot shoe to mic adaptors as well, and more expensive hotshoe to shock mount kinds of doohickeys.

I bought a used senheizer K6 system for under 300$. Definitely worth looking for good used products.
