sales agent vs producers rep

can anyone explain the difference between a sales agent and prod's rep? is it better to have a P. rep to approach distributors or the sales agent?

i'm also confused about the chain of %'s going out. if the S.A. takes 20-25 and a distributor takes the same is it off all the sales combined or are they off different areas? and if a P.R. takes 10% - is it an added 10% to all the others (s.a. and dis.)?

also, does anyone know good links to sample contracts for the above?

sorry, if i am not clear with my questions but i am quite confused about how this all works :S
any clarity would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!

There is no difference. Different name for the same service.

No matter what you call them - or they call themselves - the agent
or representative is getting paid to approach distributors.

Each contract is going to be different so it's nearly impossible to throw
out numbers with any accuracy. But in general the sales agent takes
a percentage of the selling price to the distributor. the distributor then
pays for distribution, takes their expenses off the top and a percentage.

So yes, each person or company who works on a percentage basis gets
their agreed upon rate of the sales. And they see their cut before the
filmmaker does. So if you have contracted that the sales agent get 25%
and the distributor 10% then 35% of the money made goes to them.

Of course their are variations to this scenario, too depending on what
deal is worked out.
