I'm shooting with the 20x lens on the Canon XL-2 and need to go much wider. A rental house close to me rents out a 3x 'super wide' lens and a .6 x wide angle converter. I don't think either of these is wide enough on their own, could I use them together? Any other options? (Does any body know the 35mm equivalents for these lenses?) Thanks

The zoom range (20x, 3x) is useless for computing the 35mm equivalent. What you need is the focal length range (e.g. 4.5mm to 45mm for a typical 10x lens on a 1/3" CCD camera). Then you need the multiplier for 35 mm equivalence, which is a function of the sensor size vs. the size of a 35mm film plane. I believe the Canon is about 7x, so a 4.5mm lens would act like a 31.5 mm lens on a 35mm camera, but don't quote me on this, as I just pulled that 7x thing from long-term memory.
