questions about 8mm shooting???

hi ive just started filmng my new trailer and wondered couple questions.

When I start filming is it instant like digital or does it take couple seconds to warm up??

Ive forgotten to put a colour templete at the begging is it too later or can you put one at the end?? Is it important.

What F stop should I be aiming for???

Also how do I know its working? When i was filming it make a small noise but I thought it would be very loud.

Also Ive put the film in and it fitted straight in, with the words right way up. Ive shot about 30seconds and the S Film Counter hasnt moved. Is that normal??

thanks nigel

Some super 8 cameras may take a couple of seconds to get to speed.
If you slate each shot you'll be fine. If you roll film and then say "action"
you'll be fine.

You only need a color/grey scale chart if you are doing a video transfer
with color correction. Since it's important, you should call the lab
doing the transfer and ask that they prefer. Putting it at the end might
be just fine. But each lab has different requirements - so ask them.

F-stop depends on what look you're going for. I don't know that there
is one you should be aiming for. But 4, 5.6 and 8 are the center,
giving you standard depth of field.

I guess the only way you know for sure if it's working is when you get
the developed film back from the lab. Depending on what camera you're
using ( you chose not to mention that here) the film transport can be
loud or very quiet. That isn't an indication that the camera isn't working.
Neither is the counter after running 30 seconds. Again depending on
the camera you're using, some footage counter only register in 5 or 10
foot sections and they aren't frame accurate. 30 seconds is about 10
feet so it might move soon.

You could always pull out the cartridge, make an mark on the film, run
it and pull out the cartridge. If it's working, the mark will be gone. You'll
loose a few feet of film, but you'll know.
