Hello everyone,

This is my first post. Basically, I'm about to start filming a movie in three weeks, and I currently have a JVC Everio gz-hd7 and I'm purchasing a Canon XL2 in about a week.

Is there any way I would be able to use them both such in a way that the footage looks the same? Is there going to be a big difference with the appearance? Like noticeable?

I've used an XL2 before but I just got this JVC deal and haven't used it yet, I want to be able to film different viewpoints simultaneously, but I'm worried that the quality will be noticeably different.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

I would think the footage would be very different in look, e.g. color reproduction, depth of field, and image stability if shooting handheld. Sound reproduction could also be a challenge unless using an external source.

Aside from a Canon XL1s, I also own a Proscan Hi-8, and I thought of using them both in a shoot except only shooting black & white with the Proscan. I thought it would cut together artistically. I've seen this done with a mixture of 16mm and 35mm to achieve a similar effect.

Thanks for your reply,

I do have an external source to record the sound, so that's not a problem.

Using black and white on one of the cameras is a good idea. I guess I'll just have to experiment a bit when I get the XL2.

I wonder if there is a setting on the JVC Everio that allows you to use SD quality, I guess I'll hit the ol' manual.

Thanks,

Wil
