Hey guys, how are you doing? I have a quick question.
What are some user friendly programs out there I can use in post to make gun shots and flashes?
For example: John Doe walks out of the Saloon and pulls out his pistol. He fires three shots at Jane Doe.
In your guys' experience, what would be a good program in order to make it look real?
Thank you.
edit: I have access to Macromedia FLash 8.0, should I use this?

No.
You can do it in your NLE, or the better (though more expensive) way is to use software that is made for compositing, like: After Effect, Shake, Nuke, Fusion, Combustion, etc..
the easiest way would be to make use of muzzle flashes they have on the detonationfilms website (http://detonationfilms.com/) directly in your NLE.. note this is the EASIEST way, not the best way. The best way always costs more. ;)
Don't forget you'll also need to use some good sound effects to complete the effect.

Hmmm, what do you mean by NLE? And if I wanted sound effects for like a .357 magnum, where would I go about finding a high quality version?
Thank you

Cheap(ish) and Quick Muzzle Flashes (that look decent), good learning curve, multi-use software.... use "EffectsLab".... www.fxhome.com
It can also do stylized rendering, greenscreens, lightsabers, etc, etc, etc... it'll make your shoes, walk your fucking coffee and shine your dog in the morning. You get the point. I think it's a great program for indies.
