Hey, welcome as well! How is the filmmaking scene in India? I'd imagine it would be exploding, but I don't know the tech situation there.

its exploding all right and technically its also way up there. its just a different kind of storytelling and that has its own kind of specialised crew

A lot of HD projects? I can't find a project in Toronto that ISN'T using HD.

a ot of HD projects, true. I am a Cinematographer/Producer/Director, ex-advertising agency creative. I have juyst shot a commercial on the CineAlta. The HDCAM workflow is pretty smooth now and many feature films have already been shot on HDV/HDCAM/VAriCAM. What we DONT have is Panavision and Viper, both because of cost reason alone, not that people arent aware. You can understand how the dollar conversions work with slightly weaker currencies. We are an entirely Arri based country. We make over 1000 feature length films per year and with the proliferation of TV channels theres a lot of commercial work as well. But, as is always the grouse, the quality of creative has gone down to the dogs. The music videos are one place where you can expect to be creative and experimental, but all that we seem to be doing is shoot glamourous pictures of half naked men and women. Thats what the music producers want, for some strange reason, though every single person I have asked, wants otherwise.

else, mot feature productions are going through the new trend of a DI, we have the latest equipment, some of the best crew etc. it fun, a lot of patience and pain, but fun...perhaps...

what do you do?

Wow- pretty cool. I've always wanted to go to India and check out the filmmaking scene. I've been wondering how HD is catching on outside of the North American market. I saw a lot of HD films come out of Austrialia during the Toronto Film Fest.

Music videos are the same here- we seem to be in an age of tits and ass. Once upon a time, music videos had stories, and were "cool". Now they're just point and shoot softcore with top ten soundtracks. I feel your pain.

I work in Toronto- mainly focussing on writing at the moment (the root of everything), but I make low-low-budget movies with whatever equipment I can. Kind of sideskirting the whole "industry" thing as long as possible (too much stress), but perhaps with future intentions of raiding the mass market for quick dollars and operating a self-suffiecient "alternative to mainstream" type production HQ thing. More or less. What can I say? If you need money to make money, but have no money, then you can't make money- but it doesn't mean you can't make movies.
