View Full Version : Tape stock PAL - NTSC

Hi Guys

This is my week for asking dumb technical questions!

So, here goes -- Is there a difference between PAL and NTSC mini-dv tape stock or is mini-dv tape stock universal?

The reason I'm asking is that I'm playing with the idea of buying a US HDV camera to take away with me, that uses mini-dv tape stock.

I can edit in either PAL or NTSC -- but I don't want any tape stock supply issues and I don't know any UK based producers who use NTSC (for the obvious reason that PAL is fundamentally a better system in most production circumstances)

the stock should be the same.

Definitely use the EXACT SAME TAPE STOCK from the very first tape you stick in to the last tape before retiring the camera...

It's a lubrication thing ;)...mixing them will gum up the heads and mechanisms :(

Thanks -- I always use Panasonic tape stock exclusively.
